How to Write an Artist Statement & Other Important Docs for Artists
This workshop is about marketing and professionalism, which may be more important than your ability as an artist when you are trying to exhibit and sell your art today. Learn how to write an artist statement. In an artist’s statement, you have the opportunity to offer viewers, curators, and buyers’ insight about specific meanings and facts that relate to the interpretation of your work. Because the more vague the statement is, the less important it is so it needs to be crafted well. The statement could also be a means of helping an artist think about beginning new work or continuing ideas and themes that still intrigue them.
This workshop is a personalized approach to improving your statement as well as how to use it to create other materials like a press release or even a business plan. A well written statement can become the core of all your promotional materials. There will be a comprehensive handout to follow during the workshop and after.
Emphasis will be placed on how galleries, clients, or viewers will judge your work. There will be a lecture and discussion with a ton of content. Participants should be prepared to share samples of their artwork and any promotional materials currently in use. This workshop is for any artist using any medium.
